Restrictions on Google services when a VPN connection is active
At present, when working from home via an active VPN connection, you may experience restrictions when using Google services or accessing websites. We are investigating the cause and will provide information on possible workarounds.
At present, there may be restrictions on the use of Google services when working from home if a VPN connection to the university is active at the same time.
This may affect, amongst other things, Google Search and other Google services. In some cases, the disruption also manifests itself in websites not being accessible as usual via Google or when using the Chrome browser. As things stand, older devices from 2019 and 2020 appear to be particularly affected.
What can you do at the moment?
If you encounter such problems whilst an active VPN connection is in place, please first change the status of the VPN connection: disconnect from the VPN or reconnect.
Although this workaround is not a permanent solution, it has currently proved to be a viable way of restoring the connection or access.
We are continuing to investigate the cause and are working on a permanent solution. We will keep you informed of any new developments here.
