Network access in mobile working

Important information for existing VPN users: Update of the VPN gateway

We have good news for everyone who already uses our VPN service! There is no need to reinstall the Cisco Secure Client

The following steps are necessary to use the new VPN gateway:

1. manual customisation: Open your Cisco Secure Client and enter "vpn1.europa-uni.de" instead of "Viadrina-VPN" in the corresponding window. Then connect as usual.

2. future connections: The next time you start the VPN client, please select "VIADRINA-VPN1" from the list of available connections.

This simple adjustment will ensure that your connection continues to work smoothly and securely. If you have any questions or need support, our IT support team will be happy to help you!

Prerequisites: VPN connection

User account:

You must have a valid university student or staff account

Internet connection:.

Make sure you have an internet connection off campus

Special VPN client:

For Apple iOS (e.g. iPad) and Android: Install the "Cisco AnyConnect" app from the respective app store.
For other systems: Download the required software via this link "https://vpn1.europa-uni.de". Please note that this link must be accessed outside the campus and dormitory network as it is not accessible there.

Important note: Please close your web browser before establishing the VPN connection. This will ensure that the connection is established correctly and that all web requests are routed securely via the VPN.

Windows 11 (64-bit) and current versions supported by Microsoft,
Windows 10 x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit)
Microsoft supported versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 for ARM64-based PCs

Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04
macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 12 Monterey and macOS 11 Big Sur

Installation and setup

To download the "Cisco Secure Client", you must first open your browser (e.g. Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, ...).

Make sure that you are outside the campus network
Type "vpn1.europa-uni.de" in the search bar at the top and press the Enter key.

The following window should now be displayed.
Enter your EUV login details here.
Then click on "Logon"

After you have successfully logged in, the following window will appear:
Click on "Download for Windows".

You have now downloaded the Cisco Secure Client installer.
Open it.

The following window will now open:
Click on "Next"

Now you need to click on "I accept the Terms in the Licence Agreement" and then on "Next".

Now click on "Install"

You can then finalise the installation by clicking on "Finish".

The Cisco Secure Client is now downloaded. To open it, you must press the Windows key on the keyboard and enter "Cisco Secure Client" in the search
Click on it and click on "Open".
