New file server from 02.01.2026!

The IKMZ is modernising Viadrina's file storage system - stable, secure and future-proof. For most users, everything runs automatically. Only mobile access via Eduroam or VPN requires a one-off reconnection.

Dear colleagues, dear employees at the Viadrina,

Technical modernisation is progressing in all areas. This also applies to the IKMZ. In order to ensure stable and fail-safe file storage in the coming years, we are replacing our central file server (\\viafs02 - drive I:, H:, M:) on 2 January 2026. This affects all areas of the Viadrina.

We are endeavouring to make the transition as smooth as possible. All data and documents that you and your organisational unit have backed up on the current system (\\viafs02 - drive I:, H:, M:) will be found one-to-one on the new server. All authorisations, shares and folder structures are transferred in full.

The familiar functions for file recovery and data backup are still available.

No user interaction is required for local workstations, including laptops connected to the LAN and virtual desktops (cloud).

Your network drives automatically connect to the new server (e.g. drives I:, H:, M:).

For users who access the file server via Eduroam or VPN or whose end devices are not managed by the IKMZ, the network drives must be reconnected once and manually.
